Yesterday, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts from Nebraska addressed the Senate to highlight the achievements of the pro-life movement in his state. He commended Nebraska’s successful ballot initiatives and called for support of new legislation aimed at protecting infants who survive abortion attempts.

“The pro-life movement is about love, compassion, dignity, and respect. Nebraska is a pro-life state, and Nebraska has been a leader in the pro-life movement,” said Ricketts. He emphasized that last year, Nebraska became the first state to pass a pro-life ballot initiative while preventing a “really heinous” pro-abortion measure.

Ricketts urged his colleagues to back the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This bill, sponsored by Senator James Lankford and co-sponsored by Ricketts along with 44 others, seeks to ensure medical care for babies surviving abortion attempts. Additionally, Ricketts announced plans to introduce the Dignity for Aborted Children Act to ensure respectful treatment of aborted children’s remains.

He described current practices as “absolutely barbaric” when babies born alive after failed abortions are left without care. “It requires medical treatment to be given to those babies,” he stated regarding the Born-Alive Act.

Ricketts also acknowledged thousands expected at the National March for Life event on Friday. He concluded by emphasizing that unborn children deserve protection as citizens of the United States: “Working together, we can defend life and empower women.”
