U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts of Nebraska emphasized his commitment to renewable fuels and the state’s agricultural sector during a recent press call. The senator has spearheaded a resolution designating May 2025 as Renewable Fuels Month in America, aiming to highlight the contributions of Nebraska’s farmers.

“Nebraska farmers fuel the world through the production of renewable fuels like ethanol and biodiesel,” stated Ricketts. He noted that these fuels “save consumers money at the pump and support Nebraska agriculture” while also contributing to environmental cleanliness and American energy security.

Ricketts pointed out the financial benefits for consumers, mentioning personal savings when using biofuels: “Last time I filled up at Hy-Vee, I saved 55 cents per gallon with E10 compared to the regular 89 octane.” He underscored that such savings provide “real relief” for families.

The economic impact on local agriculture was another focus. Nebraska’s 25 ethanol plants have an annual capacity of nearly 2.2 billion gallons, creating over 1,300 jobs and generating more than $6 billion annually. Ricketts described this as “value-added agriculture,” highlighting how biofuels enhance corn prices for local farmers.

Biofuels also contribute significantly to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 52% compared to regular gasoline, according to Ricketts. They displace imported oil needs, enhancing U.S. energy independence.

Ricketts mentioned various legislative efforts supporting renewable fuels, including opposing President Biden’s electric vehicle mandate and promoting bills like the Flex Fuel Fairness Act and the Farm to Fly Act. These initiatives aim to expand biofuel use across different sectors.

As summer approaches, Ricketts encouraged drivers to consider using E15 fuel blends: “You’ll be supporting local producers, helping clean our environment, and promoting American energy security.”
