“Let the Expedition Begin!”

Reading

The Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program will begin Wednesday, June 1. (Program runs though July 16.) Youth age 2 through 12th grade are invited to begin their expedition by registering that day. However, you may register any time during the month of June, if you can not attend that day. An adult program will also begin June 1. In addition, extra activities will be offered throughout the duration of the reading program that registrants may participate in if they choose.

The June activity schedule is as follows.

SATURDAY, JUNE 4 – “Oceans of Possibilities” Fun Day – 10:00 – 12:00 – All Ages – Enjoy games, snacks, and sign up for the reading program.

MONDAY, JUNE 13 – Craft – “Mermaid Sugar Scrub and Mermaid Jewel” – 10:30 – TEENS – 7th – 12th grade – Make your own natural body scrub and crystal seashell.

TUESDAY, JUNE 14 – Lunch at “Sea Splash Park” – 12:00 – All Ages – Bring a sack lunch and listen to stories.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15 – “Sea Stars” – 10:30 – Ages 2 & 3 – Program themed story with related fingerplays. — “The Motion of the Ocean” – 2:00 – All Ages – Learn the ocean names and learn about ocean zones, currents, etc.

THURSDAY, JUNE 16 – “Fin-tastic Fish” – 10:30 – All Ages – Learn “fishy facts” and create your own fish.

MONDAY, JUNE 20 – “Survival Island” – Can you survive on a deserted island? 10:30 – TEENS – 7th – 12th grade – Participants will visit different stations. Stations may include make your own water filter, build a raft, build a shelter, etc.

TUESDAY, JUNE 21 – Lunch at “Sea Splash Park” – 12:00 – All Ages – Bring a sack lunch and listen to stories.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22 – “Sea Stars” – 10:30 – Ages 2 & 3 – Program themed story with related fingerplays. — “Marine Mammals” – 2:00 – All Ages – Discover fun facts about whales, dolphins, etc. Craft activity.

THURSDAY, JUNE 23 – “Marine Reptiles” – 10:30 – All Ages – Learn about sea turtles, sea snakes, etc. Craft activity.

FRIDAY, JUNE 24 – ” Keith West: Magician” – Ocean of Possibilities Program – 4:00 – All Ages – West Elementary.

MONDAY, JUNE 27 – Craft – “Ocean Tissue Paper Watercolor” – 10:30 – TEENS – 7th – 12th grade – Participants use pieces of colored tissue paper to in essence paint with. After the “paint” dries, participants use black paper to make an ocean silhouette to place over the watercolor.

TUESDAY, JUNE 28 – Lunch at “Sea Splash Park” – 12:00 – All Ages – Bring a sack lunch and listen to stories.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29 – “Sea Stars” – 10:30 – Ages 2 & 3 – Program themed story with related fingerplays. — “Marine Mammals” – 2:00 – All Ages – Discover fun facts about seals, otters, sea lions, etc. Craft activity.

THURSDAY, JUNE 30 – “Theatre West” Performers Group – 10:30 – All Ages – Outside library weather permitting. — “Beach Bum” Afternoon – 2:00 – All Ages – Craft such as sand art hand print, sandcastles, etc. Dress as you think a beach bum would dress.
