Event by Nebraska Extension Cheyenne County
Location: Western Nebraska Community College
The City of Sidney is applying to create a certified creative district through the Nebraska Arts Council. Partners include the Cheyenne County Chamber, Cheyenne County Tourism, High Plains Arts Council, and the Historic Preservation Board.
We intend to base the creative district area on the core historic district boundaries, though discussions about events and spaces can include locations outside of that area. With this designation, we hope to attract and retain creative people in the community, build on cultural assets, and continue creativity and innovation as a primary economic driver in Sidney.
"Embracing the arts drives economic growth. Creative districts allow communities to cluster hubs of economic activity around arts, culture, and heritage. They enhance an area as an appealing place to live, visit, and do business. These districts complement non-arts businesses such as restaurants, offices, retail, housing, and lodging." - Nebraska State Senator Megan Hunt
Through public discussion and steering committee meetings, we will create a vision, mission, values, and goals for the Sidney Creative District. Your opinion is valuable in this process!
