U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Clean Air, Climate, and Nuclear Safety, issued a statement today following comments from a spokesman for Vice President Kamala Harris. The spokesman claimed that Harris “does not support an electric vehicle mandate.”
“Vice President Harris is lying about her supposed opposition to an EV mandate,” said Ricketts. “As Senator, she co-led the Zero-Emission Vehicles Act, which would require all new car sales be zero emission vehicles by 2040. As a presidential candidate, she supported a bill to ban non-zero-emission vehicles by 2035. This sudden reversal just months before the election is a pathetic and transparent attempt to distance herself from the unpopular EV mandates already being pushed by the Biden-Harris EPA.”
Ricketts has consistently opposed the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts to implement an electric vehicle mandate. He has introduced and co-sponsored legislation aimed at overturning the new tailpipe emissions standards proposed by the administration.
