U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts of Nebraska has introduced the Dignity for Aborted Children Act, a bill aimed at ensuring that the remains of unborn children are treated with dignity and respect. The proposed legislation mandates that abortionists dispose of fetal remains in a manner similar to that of any deceased human being.
Senator Ricketts highlighted a past incident where over 2,200 aborted fetuses were found in an abortionist's home as a driving force behind the bill. "It’s horrifying that human remains would be treated like common medical waste," said Ricketts. "My bill will ensure that the remains of aborted children are given the dignity and respect they deserve."
The bill is co-sponsored by Senators Jim Banks (R-IN), Steve Daines (R-MT), Josh Hawley (R-MO), Jim Justice (R-WV), James Lankford (R-OK), Jim Risch (R-ID), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Tim Sheehy (R-MT), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Roger Wicker (R-MS).
As outlined, the Dignity for Aborted Children Act requires abortionists to inter or cremate fetal tissue within seven days following an abortion procedure, adhering to state laws on human remains disposal. It also imposes annual reporting obligations and sets civil or criminal penalties for non-compliance with disposal, informed consent, and reporting requirements.
The bill has received endorsements from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, Concerned Women for America, and Students for Life Action.
Senator Ricketts has been an advocate for pro-life measures throughout his political career. During his tenure as Governor of Nebraska, he enacted legislation banning dismemberment abortions and enhancing informed consent protections. Additionally, he implemented policies such as priority parking for pregnant women and facilities for nursing mothers in state buildings.
