He described Hawks as "a visionary leader in the business and philanthropic community," highlighting his roles on the Board of Creighton University and as a University of Nebraska Regent. Ricketts emphasized that Hawks' support for higher education had significantly impacted Nebraska students by opening new opportunities.
Ricketts also acknowledged the personal connection he shared with Howard and Rhonda Hawks during his tenure as Governor of Nebraska, referring to them as "great partners and friends."
