U.S. Senators Pete Ricketts and Adam Schiff have introduced the Accountability for Terrorist Perpetrators of October 7th Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at sanctioning the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), identified as the third-largest terrorist group in Gaza. The PRC has claimed responsibility for over 100 attacks against Americans and Israelis, including participation in the deadly events of October 7, 2023. Companion legislation is being led in the House by Representatives David Kustoff and Brad Sherman.
Senator Ricketts stated, "The Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) is the third-largest terrorist organization in Gaza and another puppet of Iran." He emphasized that despite decades of attacks, including those on October 7th, the PRC has not been properly sanctioned. The proposed bill aims to hold accountable those involved in these acts.
Senator Schiff added that for years, the PRC has carried out attacks against Israelis, Americans, and Palestinians. He noted their involvement with Hamas during the October 7th massacre and stressed that any organization engaging in such violence should be sanctioned under U.S. law.
Representative Kustoff expressed his commitment to holding accountable those responsible for the October 7th attack on Israel. He highlighted that the PRC has terrorized Israelis and Americans for years and voiced support for introducing this crucial legislation alongside Representative Sherman.
Representative Sherman remarked on the necessity of sanctioning the PRC due to their history of violence against innocents. He called it long overdue to designate them as a terrorist organization alongside Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Background information indicates that while Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad are already sanctioned by the U.S., the PRC has not yet been designated as a foreign terrorist organization despite its record of terror activities. The PRC's involvement in past attacks includes bombing a U.S. diplomatic convoy in 2003 and various other violent acts targeting both Israelis and Palestinians.
The proposed legislation seeks to apply sanctions on the PRC to address its long-standing history of terrorism.
