U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts of Nebraska announced the passage of the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins of 2025 (GENIUS) Act, a significant piece of legislation aimed at establishing regulations for stablecoin use. The act, which Ricketts co-sponsored, includes an amendment he secured to expedite the certification process for states like Nebraska that already have a stablecoin regulatory framework.

Ricketts highlighted the importance of this legislation by stating, "The GENIUS Act protects consumers while promoting innovation and opportunity." He further noted that it "prioritizes national security and advances the U.S. dollar," emphasizing Nebraska's role as an innovator in the stablecoin sector.

Senator Bill Hagerty from Tennessee introduced the bill, with support from additional co-sponsors including Senators Angela Alsobrooks, Kirsten Gillibrand, Cynthia Lummis, and Tim Scott.

The full text of the legislation is available for public review.
