Senator Pete Ricketts comments on Husker football, rural housing legislation, and loss of Deng Mayar

Senator Pete Ricketts, U.S. Senator representing Nebraska, shared updates and personal reflections in a series of social media posts between August 18 and August 19, 2025.

On August 18, Ricketts celebrated the upcoming start of the college football season with a post about the Nebraska Cornhuskers: "10 days to go! @HuskerFootball will kick off its 2025 football season at Arrowhead Stadium against the Cincinnati Bearcats. GO BIG RED!"

Later that day, he highlighted legislative progress on rural housing issues in Nebraska. Ricketts posted: "Across Nebraska, rural housing has been a huge demand. Great to see unanimous (24-0) passage of the bipartisan Renewing Opportunity in the American Dream (ROAD) to Housing Act of 2025. The package included my Streamlining Rural Housing Act, which would enhance efficiency and". The ROAD to Housing Act aims to address challenges in rural housing by streamlining processes and increasing access for residents throughout Nebraska.

On August 19, Ricketts offered condolences following the loss of a young community member: "I want to extend my prayers and condolences to the family, friends, and teammates of Deng Mayar. It is heartbreaking to hear of the loss of such a talented and promising young man." Deng Mayar was recognized as an emerging talent within his community.

Senator Pete Ricketts has served as Nebraska's U.S. Senator since January 2023 after previously serving as governor.
