OMAHA, NE - U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) has expressed his thoughts on the reopening of rail crossings at Eagle Pass and El Paso, Texas by Customs and Border Protection (CBP). In a statement, Ricketts emphasized that while it is good news that the rail border crossings are open again, they should have never been closed in the first place if President Biden had taken the border crisis seriously.

Ricketts called for a change in policies to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants into the country and urged Mexico to enforce its immigration laws to prevent thousands of illegal immigrants from using Ferromex trains to reach the border.

"It's good news that the rail border crossings are open, but they never would have been closed if President Biden would have taken our border crisis seriously. Joe Biden must change his policies to prevent the flood of illegal immigrants coming into our country. Mexico also needs to do its part by enforcing its immigration laws and preventing thousands of illegal immigrants from riding Ferromex trains to our border," said Ricketts.

He further highlighted that Americans understand the need for real policy changes to bring the unprecedented crisis under control and called for President Biden to take the matter seriously.

Ricketts had previously condemned the decision to close the rail crossings and, along with seven Republican colleagues, sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas demanding their reopening.

The reopening of the rail crossings at Eagle Pass and El Paso is a significant development in border operations. However, the concerns raised by Senator Ricketts highlight the ongoing challenges the United States faces in managing the influx of illegal immigrants across its southern border. The issue calls for comprehensive policies and cooperation with Mexico to ensure a secure and orderly border.
