U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts, a senior member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, has expressed his views following a meeting with Venezuela's President-elect Edmundo González. In his statement, Ricketts emphasized the importance of supporting Venezuelans in their quest for democracy.
Ricketts stated, "Venezuelans overwhelmingly chose Edmundo González their next President. But Dictator Nicolas Maduro stole yet another election result." He highlighted the struggle as "a battle of freedom versus tyranny in our hemisphere."
The senator also stressed the need for safe protests against what he described as an "illegitimate inauguration" and urged U.S. support for Venezuelan efforts to restore democracy.
Ricketts' comments come amid ongoing political tensions in Venezuela, where allegations of electoral fraud have sparked widespread debate.
